Did You Let Your baby Cry It Out For Sleep Training?

I've read that its good and that its bad. What do you think? Did it work for you?

I tried to let my baby cry it out at 5 months but I think that was too young. I should have waited until 6 months or later when she could put her pacifier in by herself. So then I went back and forth over and over and probably confused the poor kid. I got to the point where if she would wake up and stand up when she was 2 years old, I would just walk in her room and tell her she was safe and she needed to lay back down.
